On February 6, 1986, Mike and Meg Vorndran opened The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in
Shawnee, OK. It was a cold winter day complete with a winter storm, but that didn’t stop them from opening their doors for their first day of business. For 34 years and counting, you have been able to walk into our pharmacy and be greeted by name and with a smile.
Many things have changed since that day, but one thing has not changed…The Medicine Shoppe is still going strong thanks to their legacy. It is a difficult thing to open a business from scratch, but Mike and Meg worked very hard to build The Medicine Shoppe into the thriving business it is today.
Have you ever thought about what it means to “shop local” and support independent businesses? Independently-owned businesses know the importance of supporting their fellow small business owners and what it means for the community around them. For example, at The Medicine Shoppe, we use local businesses for our office and janitorial supplies from South Central Industries. We also sponsor a local elementary classroom and support them with what they need throughout the year. You’ll find us on Friday mornings meeting with BRN of Shawnee, other local independent businesses, to pass referrals to help our community grow. Employees of our pharmacy are shopping at local businesses and participating in community events that your families attend. This means that what is invested in our pharmacy is in turn invested into the Shawnee community.
Today we are blessed to be within a group of independent pharmacies that love support us and you behind the scenes. We have over a century worth experience and talent behind us. We virtually have 10+ Pharmacists in the store at all times.
We don’t say this to boast, but to say that we love our community and we are proud to be a part of it. Thank you for letting us take care of you and your family!
